Dr. Chapalo Ivan

Dr. Ivan Chapalo received the Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in physics from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2011 and 2017 correspondingly. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Radiophysics Department, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in 2017-2020 and at the Department of Electromagnetism and Telecommunication, University of Mons in 2020-2023. Dr. Ivan Chapalo joined IESL-FORTH as a postdoctoral researcher in July 2023. He is a co-author of 30+ publications, and he is a winner of a number grants and scholarships. His professional and research interests are fiber optic sensors, multimode optical fibers and sensors, fiber Bragg gratings, polymer optical fibers, LabVIEW programming.

Maria Roumpou is an archaeologist specialized in archaeological science and the implementation of analytical methods in the study of archaeological material, focusing on residue analysis. She holds a PhD in Scientific Methods in Archaeology from the University of Bradford. Her research interests include Aegean archaeology, application of scientific methods in archaeology, archaeological chemistry and molecular analysis in archaeological material. She has participated in a range of projects studying archaeological ceramics as a specialist in organic residue analysis (Mycenae, Thessaloniki Toumba, Drakaina Cave – Kephalonia, Akrotiri – Thera, Ayia Sotira – Nemea, Thebes, etc.), as well as a co-director of the Northern Greek Storage Project with Dr. Despina Margomenou. Maria has developed a long standing collaboration as a Research Associate at the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, Harokopio University in Athens.

Dr. Zouridi Leila

Leila Zouridi (she/her/they/them) is a chemist with a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Crete (UOC) in Greece. Focus of their doctoral thesis was the synthesis of perovskite oxide nanomaterials as electrodes for symmetrical solid oxide cells (SOCs) and the fabrication of such electrochemical devices by additive manufacturing (AM) methods. Current research interests include the synthesis, characterization, crystalline structure and properties of nanomaterials, such as transition metals oxide semiconductors (TMO) and mixed ion-electron conductors (MIEC); the development of colloidal dispersions and thin film devices; and applications for sustainable energy production (solid oxide fuel cells, protonic ceramic fuel cells and green hydrogen technology) as well as energy-saving technologies (thermochromic coatings). Research activities are being conducted under the supervision of Prof. Vassilios Binas at IESL-FORTH facilities, in collaboration with university facilities at UOC, AUTh, UOWM, TUC and RUG.
