10/2020 – today PhD Student on BEC 1


Vishnupriya has joined us in October 2020 to work on our BEC 1 machine. She will study coherence in MatterWave optics. 

She joins us from the International School of Photonics of the Cochin University of Science and Technology, India She did her Master thesis project at the Raman Research Institute in Bangalore, India.

Mr. Intzes Dimitrios

Demetrios Intzes is a BSc student at the Physics Department, University of Crete. He joined IESL-FORTH to pursue his undergraduate thesis entitled “On-line monitoring of laser assisted removal of aged varnishes from paintings using photo-acoustics spectroscopy”.

Irene Malegiannaki studied chemistry at the Chemistry Department of the University of Crete (B.Sc.) and received her M.Sc. degree in Physical Chemistry from the same department, in 2020. She joined IESL-FORTH for her MSc thesis focused on Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for the analysis of both biogeochemical archives for paleoenvironmental studies and archaeological bronze objects. In 2021, she continued with an Erasmus traineeship at the University of Malaga Laser Lab focusing on LIBS analysis of single particles in an optical trap.

In 2021, she received a scholarship to pursue her Ph.D. within the DEEPICE  MSCA ITN project at the Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen, under the supervision of Asist. Prof. Vasileios Gkinis, Prof. Dorthe-Dahl Jensen (Niels Bohr Institute - University of Copenhagen) and Prof. Carlo Barbante (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice). She is working on the development of an innovative instrument which couples Laser Ablation with Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy for high quality water isotopic measurements of the Beyond EPICA Oldest Ice core which will be extracted from East Antarctica and it will potentially cover climate history of 1.5 million years.

Ms. Konstantinou Maria Eleni

Maria-Eleni Konstantinou is a master's student at the Materials Science and Technology Department at the University of Crete. She studied chemistry at the Chemistry Department of the same university. She joined IESL -FORTH for her thesis concentrating on the spectroscopic characterization of inorganic pigments using diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. She is currently performing her master thesis examining the detection of organic residues on archaeological findings with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy.

Mr. Spanos Lampros

Lampros is a recent graduate M.Sc. student from the Department of Chemistry, at the University of Crete. He successfully finished his B.Sc. at the same department, completing his thesis at Prof. K. Velonia Lab at the Department of Material Science and Technology of the same University. He joined IESL-FORTH for his M.Sc. thesis, concentrating on LIBS and Machine Learning Algorithms. Between the B.Sc. and the M.Sc. he went in UK for a four months Erasmus+ Internship at Prof. G. Mantovani Group, at the University of Nottingham, and after the end of his M.Sc. studies he went in Denmark for a second Erasmus+ Internship at Prof. N. Hatzakis Lab, at the University of Copenhagen.

Dr. Pinon Hermida Victor

Victor Pinon received his Doctorate degree from the Department of Industrial Engineering II (University of A Coruña, Spain 2011). During his PhD, he explored several approaches to improve the analytical capabilities of the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy technique including the use of femtosecond lasers and double pulse configurations. In 2014 he joined Applied Photonics Ltd in the UK as a Senior Applications Scientist. Among other tasks, he was involved in the design, manufacture, and commissioning of several laser systems that were used in nuclear facilities. In 2021 he joined IESL-FORTH as a research assistant.

Ms. Papadopoulou Alexia
