
Demetrios Anglos is Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Crete and Associated Researcher at IESL-FORTH, where he leads the Applied Spectroscopy Laboratory (since 2001). The activities of his research group focus on a) the study of photophysics in molecules and novel nanomaterials with potential sensing applications and b) the applications of laser spectroscopic techniques (LIF, LIBS, Raman spectroscopy) in the analysis of materials, with particular emphasis on the development of mobile, field-deployable instrumentation. The output of his research is presented in over 100 publications (4 invited) in peer-reviewed journals and in several talks (25 invited) at major international conferences. He has been involved in a number of EU and nationally-funded research projects (in 6 as a scientist in charge). During the period 2001-2016, he served as the Technical Manager of the Ultraviolet Laser Facility operating at IESL-FORTH, which is currently a member of LASERLAB-EUROPE. He has over the past few years concentrated his attention on European and National Initiatives which aim at developing Research Infrastructures relevant to Cultural Heritage Science, E-RIHS (European Research Infrastructures for Heritage Science), and E-RIHS.gr. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Heritage Science.

Emmanuel Stratakis is a Research Director and Acting Director of the Institute of Electronic Structure (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH). He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Crete (UOC) in 2001. After graduating, he joined as a visiting Researcher the IESL-FORTH working on the ultrafast laser engineering of materials. In the fall semesters of 2006 and 2008, he was appointed as a visiting Researcher at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of California, Berkeley. In 2007 he was elected Researcher at IESL-FORTH where he is leading the “Ultrafast Laser Micro- and Nano- processing” laboratory (https://www.iesl.forth.gr/en/research/ULNMP-Group; https://stratakislab.iesl.forth.gr). He has over 300 SCI publications and more than 17000 citations, h-index=71 (Google Scholar) and he has coordinated many National and European grants. He has delivered more than 150 invited and keynote lectures and has been organizer and chair in major international scientific conferences. He has been an Editor of the journals 'Optoelectronic Advances’, ‘Optoelectronic Technology’, ‘Optics and Laser Technology’ ‘Materials Today (Bio)’, and ‘International Journal of molecular Sciences’. Since 2015, he is the Director of the Nanoscience Facility of FORTH, part of the NFFA-Europe EU Infrastructure, where he is a member of the General Assembly. He is a National expert in the High-Level Group of EU on Nanotechnologies, Advanced materials, Biotechnology, Advanced Manufacturing and Processing. He is an OPTICA Fellow and Ambassador of the European Innovation Council. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Biomimetic (www.biomimetic.gr).

Maria received her first degree in 1992 from the Physics, University of Crete and her PhD in 1997 from the Physics Department, University of Durham, UK. The subject of her PhD was organic nonlinear optics.After graduating, Maria worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Universities of Durham and Sussex and as a Senior Optical Scientist for the security company DeLaRue Holographics. She is a founding member of Xsil Ltd, a Dublin-based company specializing in the design and manufacture of laser micro-machining equipment for the semiconductor industry.
Now Maria is a Research Director at the Institute of the Electronic Structure and Laser, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, where she joined in 2003. Her main research interests are light-based additive manufacturing, multi-photon lithography, laser-based nanofabrication, and materials processing using ultrafast lasers.

Wolf von Klitzing is the PI of the BEC and Matter Waves group (www.bec.gr, www.iesl.forth.gr), and together with Prof Papazoglou the PI of the Space Optics Laboratory. The BEC group works on Bose Einstein Condensation, matter-wave interferometry and Atomtronics. They produced the first BEC in South-Eastern Europe on Friday the 13th of August 2010 and the first fully-coherent atomtronic matterwave guides. The the Space Optics Laboratory concerns itself on, e.g., behalf of the European Space agency (ESA) with technologies for Atom Quantum Sensors in space and with optical (quantum) communication between earth and LEO satellites.
Before starting the Cretan Matter-Waves group he worked at the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB) of the Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) in Paris, La Sapienzia in Rome, and AMOLF in Amsterdam.

Dr. Stavros Pissadakis is a Director of Research at FORTH-IESL. He obtained his Ptichion degree in Physics from the University of Crete, Greece and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering/Photonics from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), University of Southampton, UK. He established and leads the Photonic Materials and Devices Laboratory (PMDL), which strategic vision focuses on the development of disruptive design photonic, sensing and actuating devices, for a number of diverse current and emerging application fields; covering investigations from the proof-of-principle stage and reaching device demonstration in relevant environment (TRL5). He has been employed as a Research Fellow in ORC, UK, as Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Computer and Electronic Engineering, Technical University of Crete, Greece, as Visiting Assistant Professor in Physics Department, University of Crete, and as Visiting Professor at the Information Engineering Department, University of Parma, Italy. He has been heavily involved in the European Platform Photonics21, being a member in the Board of Stakholders, chaired the national platform PhotonicsGR, while also being active in drawing research policy for Photonics and relevant technology commercialisation aspects. He has been involved into several research projects (European, national, industrial), personally attracting a total budget greater than 2.5MEuros, while coordinated targeted know-how transfer to a number of industrial partners. Dr Pissadakis has been actively participated in the research policy drawing in Institutional and Foundation level, being a member of the Scientific Board of IESL (2013-2016), and a Representative of Researchers in the Board of Directors of FORTH (2013-2014). His current scientific interests include photonic crystal and microstructured optical fiber devices, whispering gallery mode resonators, optical fiber sensors, optofluidics/magnetofluidics and study of optical materials photosensitivity. He is a Senior Member of OSA and IEEE, a Topical Editor of Applied Optics and Associate Editor of IEEE/Optica JLT.
