The scientific field of my doctoral research investigates the physics of novel two-dimensional materials, such as the chalcogenides of transition metals, for low-energy consumption applications. The project focus pertains to (i) the development of innovative hybrid solid-state phases, consisting of nanometer-scale alternating layers of molecular and inorganic building blocks and (ii) the exploitation of synchrotron X-ray photon science tools to understand the role of the materials' atomic structure and dynamics modifications in their properties.

Ph.D. dissertation is being carried out at IESL-FORTH, entitled "Chemical Physics of Two-dimensional Magnetic and Superconducting Energy Materials"; degree awarding Institution, University of Crete (Dept. of Materials Science and Technology).
