The development of a novel laser cleaning methodology for the removal of pollution encrustation from the Parthenon Sculptures

A novel laser cleaning methodology that relies on the simultaneous use of infrared (at 1064 nm) and ultraviolet (at 355 nm) radiation from a Nd:YAG laser was pioneered at IESL-FORTH and is successfully applied in the preservation of the Parthenon Sculptures on the Athens Acropolis.
