The Institute of Electronic Structure and LASER (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), in the frame of the project  in the frame of the project «SMART_SURF», which is an “ARISTEIA II” Action which is part of the action "Education and Lifelong Learning" and is co‐financed by the European Union (the European Social Fund) and national funds, is seeking for one post-doctoral researcher to commit a work contract.
 


Abstract

Job Description
The purpose of the project is the development of biomimetic responsive organic coatings onto hierarchically structured surfaces and the characterization of the surface properties in terms of their wetting behavior in response to changes in single or multiple external stimuli.
 
Position Requirements
·         Bachelor in Materials Science/Physics/Chemistry/Chemical Engineering
·         Postgraduate Degree in the field of Materials Science/Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Chemical Engineering
·         PhD in the field of Materials Science/Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Chemical Engineering
·         Laboratory experience on polymer materials and/or biomaterials
·         Laboratory experience in polymer surface science
 
Additional Qualifications
·         Excellent knowledge of English language (competency in speaking and writing)
·         Scientific Publications and presentations in conferences
 
Location: IESL/FORTH - Heraklion, Crete
Budget: 9840 euros
Start Date: 1/4/2015
Contract Duration: 4 Months

Selection Procedure
Applications that are received on time are going to be reviewed by the scientific committee. The committee will select the candidacy that best matches the position and project requirements, based on the score that it will get according to the criteria table as shown on the Appendix in the end of the present announcement. If necessary, certain candidates will be invited to a personal interview with the committee on a specific date and time that will be announced.
The successful candidate will be personally notified and will be asked to present the required documents in original form within six (6) working days after the results announcement on the web and the time period for appeals. In the case that the presented documents don’t match those submitted, the candidate will be dismissed from the procedure.

APPENDIX
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT FOR THE POSITION OF A POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
 
Regarding the selection of candidates for the recruitment of a postdoctoral researcher in the frame of the project «SMART_SURF» as announced by the Institute of Electronic Structure and LASER, the review procedure will be as follows:

(Β) The result of the selection will be announced on the website of IESL-FORTH.
 
 
Candidates have the right to appeal the selection decision, by addressing their written objection to the IESL secretariat within three (3) working days since the results announcement on the web. They also have the right to access (a) the personal files of the candidates as well as (b) the table of candidates’ scores in line with the Γ/ΕΞ/4163-1/06.07.2012 document of the Hellenic Data Protection Authority. All the above information related to the selection procedure will be available at the secretariat of IESL-FORTH.

 

After the expiration of the appeal period and the review of the objections by the committee, the evaluation of the candidacies is finalized. Then the committee will ask the successful candidate to accept the job offer within three (3) working days and to present all relevant documents in original form. In the case that the presented documents don’t match those submitted, the candidate will be dismissed from the procedure as well as in the case of non-acceptance or non-response on time. In these cases, the candidate with the second higher score will be asked to accept the position according to the same procedure.  This will be repeated until a suitable candidate is accepts the position. In case of no candidate accepting the position, the position will be declared vacant.
