The purpose of the project is the design of a bi-functional self-assembling peptide-based elastic fibrous nanomatrix, reinforced with a calcium phosphate ‘filler’ to create a protein-mineral hydrogel-composite and the synthesis of hydrogel-copolymeric composites with various chemical compositions. The changes in the hydrogel-composites’ mechanical and nanomechanical properties in the hydrated state will be systematically studied, and the scaffolds’ osteogenic potential in vitro in pre-osteoblasts and human bone marrow MSCs will be assessed.
