IS-TCO : Travel

The TCO2006 will take place at the Symposium hotel of Aldemar Knossos Royal in the resort town of Hersonissos, close to Heraklion, the main city of the Greek Island of Crete. Crete was the center of the Minoan civilization, which flourished at about 2000 B.C. There are many archaeological sites throughout the island, with the palace of Knossos being the most well known.

The symposium village, Hersonissos, is situated about 25 km east of the city of Heraklion and can be reached by bus or taxi from the Heraklion airport or harbour.
Heraklion is directly connected to Athens International Airport with about 10 domestic flights daily run by Olympic Airways and Aegean Airlines. There are also direct scheduled airline connections from major European cities as well as many charter flights from most European countries.
Alternatively, one can use the ferry-boat connecting Heraklion with the harbour of Piraeus (Athens). Connection is offered by Minoan Lines or ANEK Lines and the overnight trip takes about 7 hours.

By Air. When you arrive at the Heraklion airport, transfer to the Conference site is possible by:

By Boat. When you arrive at the Heraklion harbour, you may walk to the Public Bus Station which is within walking distance. From there, buses depart to Hersonissos, on the half hour.
The first bus departs at 6:30 and the last one at 21:30.

Shuttle Bus Information (Only Sunday)

There will be a shuttle bus departing at 17:00, 19:30 & 21:30 (on Sunday 22/10) which will transport conference participants from the Heraklio Airport to the Aldemar Knossos Royal hotel. A conference representative will be waiting at the arrivals lounge.

Please note—you will register directly with the symposium organisers Mitos S.A. filling the appropriate forms. We have reserved a block of rooms for the conference participants at the hotel until 15 August 2006, the remaining rooms will be released to the public. If you want to come early or extend your stay after the conference, the same conference rates apply.

The hotel rate for the Aldemar Knossos Royal Village is per room, per night and includes room and board (breakfast and dinner). This is a special rate given to the “1st International Symposium on Transparent Conducting Oxides” participants and is considerably less than commercially available rates at the hotel. You are also responsible for paying extra expenses such as telephone calls or room service.
